An introduction to Ayurveda

Practicing yoga allows us to develop an awareness and deeper relationship with our physical body from the inside out; yoga itself is MORE than something that we do on the mat - it's a lifestyle. As this relationship deepens, we gradually become aware of other factors that influence our body, we discover habits (good and bad) and our own unique tendencies.

As a yogi with an established practice, it comes as no surprise then that there's a whole science dedicated to achieving optimal health and wellness from within, this is one of the core principles of Ayurveda; your personal body is inextricably connected to the environment around you. The environment can also be thought of as your extended body. So, whatever is happening outside in nature is expressing itself through you as well.

The purpose of yoga bring our physical, mental and emotion wellbeing into balance. Ayurveda in combination with yoga asana, pranayama and meditation uses traditional eastern medicine practices and tools that can help us to achieve optimal health and wellness through diet and lifestyle choices based on our own unique tendencies or 'doshas' as they're called in Ayurveda.

The three DOSHAS: Pitta, Vata + Kapha inform how to bring our bodies into balance through the foods we eat. Each Dosha is a combination of the 5 elements: air, water, earth, fire + ether as well as a distinct combination of our unique mental, physical and emotional characteristics.
